Boating & Sailing

Nautical tourism is very popular with our guests.  You can rent a simple rowing boat or motor boat for the day, a fisherman and his boat, you can hire a skipper and cruiser boat and spend the entire day cruising around the island.  To circle the island of SOLTA usually takes about 5 hrs.  You can make stops in small coves, swim in pristine waters and enjoy a beach barbeque or even an arranged meal at a local home.  Discover the idyllic solitude of bays and tiny coves on the southern shoreline as you explore the ecology of the land and sea at a leisurely pace.  You may be lucky enough to spot the protected Mediterranean Monk seal, that favors these clean waters or dolphins that inhabit the area.  It's not unusual to see dolphins "racing" the local ferries between the island of SOLTA and Split.

Sailing is one of Croatia's major attractions.  The fact that the coastline of Croatia, as a whole, has over 1100 islands stretching down the length of it's Adriatic coastline allows for protected sailing waters to be enjoyed by both the novice and experienced sailors alike.  Charter yacht companies with offices in Split have sailing boats of all descriptions available, with crews or on a "bare bone" rental basis.  Satellite offices are based on the island of SOLTA, in Rogac and Maslinica, where yachts are moored for the season.  In many instances, the owner of your accomodations may include the free use of a simple boat with oars or outboard motor.  Others have kayaks available.

For those sailing their own boats, you will find the sheltered harbors, bays and coves of the island of SOLTA very inviting for a simple resting spot or overnite stays.  Rogac and Marslinica offer harbor moorings and the facility for re-stocking supplies whilst enjoying local restaurants and the simple pleasures of the surrounding scenery.  Specific information is available from many websites that feature sailing in Croatia.

It's a great way of discovering the rustic nature of the island of SOLTA, perhaps giving you new ideas on how to further explore these areas from the many rock roads and pathways that wind through the olive groves and natural scrubland that eventually lead to these secluded areas. It will be another fabulous memory of your stay on the island of SOLTA - the Mediterranean as it used to be!
