Stomorska
Stormorska is the oldest coastal village and port on the island of SOLTA. The 1st families settled here as early as the 16th century. It became famous for it's fleet of big wooden ships that carried cargoes of olive oil, wine and lime to the towns on Croatia's Adriatic coastline, across the sea to Italy and other Mediterranean coastal cities. Stormorska became known for it's excellent sailors which has translated today to a fleet of sailing ships and cruisers that transport guests on day trips to the neighboring islands of Brac and Hvar and "fish picnic" tours around the coast of Solta itself. It's a magnificent site to see craft of all ages and sizes, either setting out to sea or coming into the harbor to tie up, with their "cargoes" of passengers.
As you travel into Stormorska, by road, you'll get a picturesque overview of the stone houses squeezed together on narrow roads and pathways against the steep terrain that comes down from the hills onto the shoreline of the harbor and bay. The quaysides are dotted with cafe-bars and restaurants offering the superb cuisine of fresh caught fish and other local dishes, the ever popular pizzas and of course wine and liqueurs from hillside vineyards and orchards above this charming and vibrant setting. An ice cream vendor and 2 mini grocery stores with supplies of fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods and other sundries complete the picture.
Walking along the shoreline, passing all this local commerce you'll reach a small headland with a gravel beach. Take the chance to relax , sunbathe, or swim in the warm crystal clear waters. Other flat rock areas offer similar opportunities to just enjoy! As daylight fades, Stormorska's harborside "Riva" is illuminated as music and singing can be heard from the taverns and cafe-bars as you take that evening stroll after dinner. Wherever you go in Stormorska it won't be far from the accommodations that will make you feel right at home.
