Maslinica

The coastal village of Maslinica encompasses a beautiful azure blue bay at the western end of the island of SOLTA.  The bay itself is surrounded by the wonderful architecture of traditional stone houses, passed down from generation to generation, that reach up to dry-stone walled olive groves on the surrounding higher ground and a large woodland of aromatic pine trees on it's southern headland that extends to the well-protected bay of Sesula.  The area provides good anchorage for yachts.  An archipelago of seven small islets surrounds the mouth of the bay of Maslinica.  On the largest of them (Stipanska) you will discover the ruins of a Christian church and monastery dating back to the 5th or 6th century.

Maslinica was truly established in 1703, when the aristocratic family Marchi sought permission (from Venetian rulers of the day) to build a castle with high walls and towers to defend the new settlement from frequent pirate attacks. (Today, that 17th century baroque castle is newly renovated as the Martini-Marchi luxury 5star heritage hotel with open air restaurant and harbor side yacht moorings).

You'll discover Maslinica is alive and well, offering a range of holiday accommodations to suit all budgets; playing host to locals and visitors alike, enjoying the shoreline activities of walking, sunbathing, swimming and fishing, with a variety of taverns and restaurants providing traditional food dishes and wines .

Amenities: Seafood restaurants, Cocktail Bar, Supermarket, Tourist Board Office and Currency Exchange.
